South East Agricultural Society

The South of England Agricultural Society is a registered charity whose aims are to showcase farming, agriculture and the countryside through annual seasonal country shows and events. It operates from the South of England Showground, a 150-acre site situated just outside Ardingly village in the heart of the West Sussex countryside.

Central to the Society’s remit is the provision of educational events, grants, awards, bursaries and scholarships for people with an interest or involvement in farming, agriculture and other related land based industries; it was founded in 1967 from a consolidation of agricultural societies going back to the 1830’s and works across the six counties of Berkshire, East Sussex, Hampshire & the Isle of Wight, Kent, Surrey and West Sussex.

Requirements

We started working with SEAS during the Summer of 2014. They wanted to invest in their Brand and Marketing team. Being a charity meant that they had a tight budget. The key requirement for SEAS was a blend of both commercial awareness and Marketing expertise combined with a heart for the charity, its heritage and goals.

We discussed the options, which included a full time team member who would have a small amount of experience but happy to work the five days or a part time executive who could bring a wealth of experience to the table for the equivalent salary.

Solution

We recruited an executive level Marketer to work three days per week, which has worked extremely well for the charity. So much so that we have also recruited a Business Development Manager on the same basis. We continue to work with SEAS and their team as the charity develops and grows.
